The Quetzal 25 cent coin is one of the most utilized in Guatemala today. In 1949, the design of the coin was revised to place a Mayan woman on the face to pay tribute to the indigenous heritage of the country. The woman’s face used is of Maya Tz’utujil ancestry, chosen for her uncanny beauty.
The coin is also locally known as a choca, which means one eye. Since the face of the woman on the coin is in full profile, only one of her eyes is displayed.
Carry this keychain as a tribute and representation of the Guatemalan heritage!
